Robot get another replacement of cameraman

The current cameraman for Robot is R.Ratnavelu, not sure for how long, but lets hope he is the one who is going to stick to the project till the end. Robot the big budget movie by director Shankar, starring none other than Superstar Rajinikanth and Bollywood bomb Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has been having replacement of cameraman quite frequently since the project was announced.

The initial chose for shooting Rajini and Ash and the Robot was Nirav Shah, but he walked out. He was replaced by Thiru but looks like there has been differences with Thiru too and he has been now replaced by R. Ratnavelu.

The reason seems to be that Shankar has insisted his crew to be completely dedicated to Robot for the next 2 years and it is a difficult task for many to do. Lets hope Ratnavelu gets to be associated with the movie which will go down in history!!

For all the promise director Mysskin displayed in his debut (Chithiram Pesuthadi), Anjaadhey is terribly disappointing. Using the same realistic, lower middle class setting, he has an Ajmal who simply cannot emote and a Naren who sits down half-way, holding a wall every time he’s even mildly surprised. Prasanna’s menacing turn is commendable for the actor but he comes across merely as a caricature - that extra shot glorifying him when he’s finally dead perhaps panders to his hero-image! But, the worst offenders are the 30 minute chaotic, mess of a climax in the sugarcane field; and Naren’s decision to drop both his guns and get into a hand combat with Prasanna, in the climax – he’s a cop dealing with a rapist for heaven’s sake; and this was meant to be a realistic film! While I did enjoy Mysskin’s film making style – an impoverished version of Gautam Menon, if I could describe it - Anjaadhey is a drab for most parts and definitely lacks the stupendous impact of the film maker’s debut. What went wrong? The bigger budget? Oh that’s terribly unfortunate, ‘cos instead of getting a better film, we have a self-indulgent film, with only occasional strokes of brilliance.

There is finally a title for Ajith’s upcomming movie with Raju Sundaram. The movie is titled Aegan meaning the ‘One and Only One’.Aegan, is also the word used in praise of Lord Shiva and means ‘unique’. Aamir Khan’s most awaited film, the Hindi remake of ‘Ghajini’, is likely to be delayed by about two weeks, as the director of the film A R Murugadoss was arrested by the Chennai police on the complaint of the original producer Salem Chandrashekhar.

The producer had accused the director and the new producers that they had not bought the rights for the film from him and hence it was wrong on the part of the new film makers to make the film.

However, the new producer of the film Madhu Varma has denied the allegations of any illegality and claimed to have bought the rights of the film from the original producer four years back at the time of release of the film. She says that even a Telugu version had been released by her around three years back and at that time there was no such objections raised by anyone.

Whatever may be the real reason behind arrest of the director Murugadoss, but the audiences will have to wait for some more time to see the bald pate of Aamir Khan in the upcoming flick. As due to arrest of the director, Aamir Khan’s shooting spell has been postponed for the time being.

The film has Aamir Khan playing the main lead opposite hot and sexy Jiah Khan of ‘Nishabd’ fame. Asit, who had played the main female lead in the original Tamil blockbuster, is also in the film playing the same role.

Hrithik Roshan, the handsome hunk of bollywood who made ‘Krrish’ memorable by his superb performance, has been having major differences with his father Rakesh Roshan over the climax sequence of the upcoming sequel of this superhero blockbuster.

Though the father-son duo has agreed that this time Hrithik Roshan will face equally powerful villain with super natural powers but they are not being able to decide about the way of making this happen on screen.

Earlier, Rakesh Roshan had approached Shah Rukh Khan to play the character of villain opposite Hrithik in the film but things did not work out and the idea was dropped. They were also thinking on the lines of Hrithik playing the villain himself but that will entail the presence of three Hrithiks—Rohit from ‘Koi Mil Gaya’, Krishna from ‘Krrish’ and the third from this upcoming sequel.

To avoid this triple presence of Hrithik Roshan in the upcoming ‘Krrish 2’, Rakesh Roshan is hunting for a suitable hero to fill in the slot of villain opposite Hrithik in the film. The problem lies in the fact that they want someone of the equal stature of hero to play the negative character but after Shah Rukh declined the role, no one is willing to take it up for the fear of image change in the industry.

Currently, the Roshans are having a serious debate over the climax sequence of the film and any final decision in this regard is not expected before middle of the year and only after that the movie will go on the floor. The buzz doing the rounds in the industry is that Rakesh Roshan might not direct the upcoming sequel and may rope in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra of ‘ Rang De Basanti’ fame to direct it. But Rakeysh Mehra is said to be currently busy with his ‘Dilli-6’ and would consider taking up any other project only after that.

It may be recalled that earlier combinations of Hrithik Roshan and Rakesh Roshan have always produced blockbusters at the box office. They had started with ‘Kaho Na Pyar Hai’, a simple love story between Hrithik and Amisha Patel, which went on to become a super hit film at the box office due to actor’s dancing abilities and hit music. Similarly, ‘Koi Mil Gaya’ introduced an alien in bollywood films and the experiment proved super successful at the box office. Finally, ‘Krrish’ gave the superhero tag to Hrithik Roshan and made him one of the top icons of bollywood who could perform breathtaking stunts of international standards.

Later, the dance number was completed at the Film City with Aamir Khan giving his four days to choreographer Ahmed Khan for doing this. Sources say that the dance number has turned out excellent and will be used as one of the highlights of the film during promotion campaign. Sources say that the dance number required Aamir Khan to flaunt his six pack abs and accordingly he had acquired it for the month long South African spell in October. But at that time, even after completing the song choreographer wanted to introduce some variations in it and had asked the Khan to give some extra time. Aamir Khan was already neck deep in his home production ‘Taare Zameen Par’ and so could not give the required time to re-shoot some portion and returned to India.

Now, after the release of his directorial venture ‘Taare Zameen Par’, when Aamir had time and wanted to shoot for the remaining portion of the dance sequence, choreographer Ahmed Khan felt that Aamir did not have the same physique and continuity of the number will be disturbed. Aamir did not insist on shooting and instead asked for three weeks to get back into shape and to everyone surprise he kept his promise. The film is a Hindi remake of Tamil super hit film ‘Ghajini’ being directed by Murugadass. While Aamir Khan is playing the main lead in the film, Asit, who had played the female lead in the original version, will depict the same character in this Hindi remake. Jiah Khan, the sexy bombshell of bollywood, also plays a pivotal character opposite Aamir Khan in the film. In any case, Aamir Khan’s perfectionist ways has paid him handsomely and the recent example of it was his home production ‘ Taare Zameen Par’. Initially, everything goes according to plan but later the ‘Robot’ goes out of control and kills some people. The disgusted scientist is forced to terminate his own invention in the end.

Aishwarya Rai had become very selective in the choice of her films after marriage with Abhishek Bachchan and this was one of the few films that she agreed to act in. Although there were some rumours that Ash too has opted out of the film after none of the bollywood biggies agreed to do it, but all that proved wrong and she is going ahead with the Shankar’s film. Though Aishwarya’s recently released film ‘Jodhaa Akbar’, wherein she played the regal character of Jodha Bai, has not done well at the box office but she looked stunningly beautiful in the film. Kathazha kannala and Kannadhaasan has the composer trying desperately to catch up with his monster fishy hit and employs most of the former’s elements, and both are pulsatingly catchy and loud. Manasukkul’s appealing melody is accentuated by Shweta’s vocals while it’s the singing (of the composer) that kills an otherwise lovely Veenayadi nee enakku – this could’ve been so much better with another, established singer. The four theme scores are pretty good too, I must add. Director Mysskin and composer Sundar C Babu have an interesting encore in Anjaadhey.

Sooriyane has Lucky Ali mincing Tamil words into a mess, within a neat, Rock’ish tune, while Kanji paanayin, while being thoroughly enjoyable, showcases both the composer’s immaturity in using utterly disparate stock sounds and seeking valid inspiration from Rahman’s fusion-qawali tracks like Monalisa. But, despite all this, Vellithirai is a very interesting soundtrack and a confident step ahead for the young composer.

Janaki Iyer’s sonorous and pleasant Yenda raatchasaa reiterates the Harris connection. But, unlike Prem Gi. Amaran’s remix in Thozha, Aattamaa Therottamaa’s remix here works only because of the original’s lasting appeal, with Prasanna adding only mandatory DJ’ish intrusions. Chicago chickene is ridiculous – the tune and lyrics, while Thithikkum’s Latin touches and Farhad’s vocals just about saves it. Singakkutti’s mixed bag soundtrack is in line with current trends in Tamil film music.

With seductive dialogs and a slow, alluring tune, Anaikkindra thaagam works really well, more so due to Bombay Jayashree’s fab vocals. Suthudhey too has a very neat retro sound, but the blatant, silly Tamil version of Aserejé is nauseating. Kanavile has earnest vocals by Sathyan but a largely middling tune. Muzhu neela kadhai has some enticing backgrounds and a catchy tune ably handled by Megha and Sunitha Sarathi. The three theme pieces are reasonably interesting, despite assorted influences. Srikanth Deva is considerably more likeable than his usual brand of run-of-the-mill albums, in Nepaali – barring that sick tune lift, of course!

Rock mahi is definitely better - at least the catchy hook and Raghav’s noteworthy arrangements. Much like Gup chup, with fantastic vocals by Mahalxmi Iyer - but strangely enough, this one goes perplexedly haywire after a decent start. Sunidhi tries her best in I wanna guy but the musical overdose and utterly corny lyrics undo her efforts. Amalgamation (!) and Lakshmi Narayan are nonsensical hodge-podge! Raghav’s music here is overpowering and excessive; and drowns whatever moderately worthwhile tunes he may have. Aural assault!

The almost-spoken Ik rupiya is annoying - in a soundtrack, while Jan gan man is an austere version of our national anthem. Krazzy 4 is an attempt to convince us that Break free is 2008’s filmy anthem and O re lakkad sounds at best like an outdated, mildly interesting 80s track. Krazzy 4 is at best a one-track trick; with the trick repeated 3 more times to make sure we don’t miss it!

His other track, Jaane kyun, as credited, works mainly due to the source - Mohiner Ghoraguli’s Ghore pherar gaan - the reworking being strictly functional. Siddharth Suhas’ 4 tracks, on the other hand, are surprisingly decent - Richa Sharma’s Meri akhiyaan, Teri aakhon and Lagdaa naa being the picks. Even I am a bad boy has some engaging orchestration and tune. With just one middling original track, Pritam actually takes a back seat while Siddharth Suhas use the opportunity and impress in Bhram’s soundtrack!

He’s a superstar who can always bank on his fans. And now other stars in the Tamil Film industry are banking on the Rajini factor for superstardom.

After the success of the Rajinikanth classic Billa in 2007 with actor Ajith in the lead, other stars too are hoping to cash in on the Rajini magic.

One of them is the superstar’s son-in-law Dhanush, who has named his film Polladhavan after an old Rajinikanth hit.

Even actor Vikram is said to be keen on remaking the old Rajini hits Moondru Mugam. And that’s not all.

“Murattukaalai is a movie that I’d like to be part of if ever it’s remade,” said actor Vijay.

Old Rajinikanth film titles have been registered with the Tamil Film Producer Council by producers who intend to remake them either on the lines of the original scripts or with changed storylines.

The list includes old hits like Thillu Mullu, Mullum Malarum and Moondru Mugam. So why this mad-rush for Rajni film titles?

“Everybody thought let’s capitalize on Rajinikanth’s fans for the initials days. So may persons have registered Rajini film titles. One or two of them are the original producers of the Rajini films. All other producers they’ve taken the title. They may do some other story for it,” says Anbalaya Prabhakaran, Vice-President, T F Producer’s Council.

Remake a Rajinikanth film or at least borrow its title, that seems to be success mantra right now. As for the actors, if they can’t be a superstar in real life, they might at least be his avtaar in reel life.

Director Shankar while talking about the film Robot in an interview given to a TV channel has said that the title of the movie might change.

The buzz is that the State Government’s decision to provide tax-exemption to movies titled in Tamil is the reason that this name change might come through. The Tamil film producers and directors are these days found with Tamil dictionary to choose Tamil titles for their films to avail this concession.

On a 100 crore budget, Robot movie will definitely need the entertainment tax-exemption. There was also a debate over the title of Shivaji, if it was a Tamil name or not. Even with the debate that Shivaji was a Marathi name, the State government accepted that Shivaji is a Tamil title indeed, and the movie was exempted from entertainment tax. This might not work out for Robot, or will they add Robot to Tamil dictionary as well and provide entertainment tax exemption? Only time can tell!!

The meaning of Robot would be “mechanical servant”. So what would the name of Robot movie be after the name change? Any suggestions??

Marmayoghi to be coproduced by Walt Disney

Marmayoghi is all set to start by the third week of February. The film which was initally produced under the banner of Bharath Bala will now be co-produced by none other than Walt Disney Productions.

Marmayogi is the remake of 1951 MGR and Anjali Devi starrer movie with the same name. The story is based on the novel by Marie Corelli - Vendetta, A Story of One Forgotten.

Despite the clichés, (songs, scrawny lead actor!) director Vetrimaaran succeeds with Pollaadhavan mainly through the masterful screenplay that spins an unusual tale with things progressively spinning out of control, much to our surprise! As for the scrawny lead, director Shankar, when he was re-launching Prabhudeva (post Indu!) in Kaadhalan, placed a minor Karate learning shot to convince us that a bag of bones could possibly deal with a hefty man. But, while Dhanush does look the part of a lower middle class boy yearning for a bike, the only other parts that equals Shankar’s Karate-shot are Dhanush’s mom asking him to get a bike of his size and Dhanush calling himself ‘chappai’. The chappai does go on to smash the shit out of the larger-sized villains, though, quite implausibly. Even the ravishing-heroine-falling-for-scrawny-hero part is sheer annoyance. Such quibbles aside, the film’s depiction of the urban underworld is superbly gritty. Most people live their parts amazingly well, specially Dhanush’s dad and Selvam, the lead villain. Pollaadhavan is enjoyably seeped in reality about ordinary people in extraordinary situations, except for one thing that continues to plague Tamil cinema - pandering to the hero, not for his emoting abilities, but for his connections.

In fact, John Abraham has kept his schedule free for this film from last December as the film was slated to go on the floors by that time, but due to some problem in finalization of the script on the part of director, it could not go on as planned. Sources say that John Abraham has been constantly reminding the director to start work but Sriram Raghavan is still not convinced about the second half of the film and wants to make some changes in the script before going on the floors.

On the one hand, John Abraham has been waiting for the film to start since last December and on the other hand, Aishwarya Rai, who is supposed to play the female lead, has yet not given any dates for the film. Though in principle the gorgeous beauty has given her consent to producer Rohan Sippy to work in the film, but before giving exact dates for the shooting, she wants to read the final bound script of the film. So till the time director gives final script to Ash and she is satisfied with that, shooting is unlikely to start.

This is not for the first time that a film starring John Abraham with Aishwarya Rai is in trouble. Earlier too they were supposed to work together in Gaurang Doshi’s big budget film ‘ Happy Birthday’, but somehow things did not work out and Aishwarya had refused to work with the director. The industry was abuzz with the talk of Ash opting out of the film due to Gaurang’s ill-treatment of his girlfriend and subsequent police case. At a later stage, even John Abraham had opted out of the film and it was shelved forever.

Now, it will be interesting to see if this film by Sriram Raghavan of ‘ Johnny Gaddar’ and ‘ Ek Haseena Thi’ fame salvages John Abraham’s reputation at the box office or gets itself shelved due to Aishwarya Rai or some script problem.

Kalloori is a brilliant example of perfect casting - Akhil, the girl who plays Kayalvizhi and the rest of the gang, and of course Tamanna, who’s ticket to fame till recently was being mistakenly identified online as the infamous bar girl Tarannum - the casting here simply steals the show. The milieu, dialogues and the narrative is achingly real, with Joshua Sridhar’s music working superbly in the background. The silent, untold romance between Akhil and Tamanna is handled with amazing maturity and intelligence - every stroke of directorial touch working big time in identifying and presenting the first signs of love oh-so beautifully. My predominantly city-led education wouldn’t have let me identify with the goings-on of a small town arts college, but the three years I’ve spent in Salem held me in good stead, in getting somewhat close. If director Balaji Shaktivel intended to give a rude jolt to his audiences through that unexpectedly harsh climax, he’s succeeded. It’s mighty sudden, though a tad too rude for a film that, for most parts, is hopeful. Like Kaadhal, Kalloori showcases accurately and with heartwarming flourishes, the uncluttered lives of a Tamilnadu we city dwellers have learned to leave behind and ignore.

Trisha and Dhanush for Jab We Met Remake

Bollywood hit ‘Jab We Met’ starring Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor is going to be remade in Tamil. The distributors of the film, Shree Ashtavinayak Cinevision Ltd, announced that Jab We Met will be remade in four South Indian languages Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam by corporate entity Moser Baer The DVD rights of the movie when made in any of the four languages, are in the hands of Moser Baer.

The current buzz is that Danush and Trisha have been roped in to play the leads in the Tamil version of the movie. A number of heros like Paruthiveeran Karthi, Madhavan etc were approched for the role but could not be finalised. Finally they zeroed in on Danush and Trisha.

Looks like the former miss world has finally signed on the dotted lines to act in Superstar Rajinikanth’s forthcoming movie Robot.

The buzz is that the Bollywood beauty has been paid a bomb of 1.5 crores for the movie and it is said to be the highest amount ever paid to an actress. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is said to have confirmed to the media in an interview to a popular channel that she is doing Shankar’s Robot.

Robot to be animated by OCHER Studios

Since the movie will have a lot of computer graphic work Shankar has decided to start with the CG work as early as possible and the number one person who came into the mind of the director was Soundarya Rajinikanth who has done a sensational work in her animation movie Sultan the warrior.

Aayirathil Oruvan team has always been in news for the hardwork and extreme working conditions that the crew are working in in-order to finish the movie on time. From Adirampalli to Jaisalmer the team is working in extra ordinary weather conditions.

First it was Adirampalli Falls with the forest surrounding the picturesque falls. Due to the denseness of the forest the crew are not able to use their mobile phones. This prompted the shooting to be completed well before time. Now the entire 150 member crew of Aayirathil Oruvan are working under freezing conditions in Jaisalmer in Rajasthan.

Jaisalmer is a new place to Kollywood but is a favourite shooting spot in Bollywood with beautiful desserts, forts, havelis and valleys. Some of the famous bollywood movies like Border, Paheli and LOC were shot at this spot. With the completion of this part in Jaisalmer by mid february, the shooting of the movie will be 3/4th complete. The rest of the shooting is planned in a studio in Hydrabad.

Directed by Selvaraghavan, the film Aayirathil Oruvan stars Paruthi Veeran fame Karthi, Reema Sen and Andrea in the lead roles. Parthiban is doing a important role in this film. Director Azhagamperumal, who donned the guest role of a teacher in ‘Kattradhu Tamil’is acting in a pivotal role in ‘Aayirathil Oruvan’. Well known fashion designer Erum Ali of Chennai has given a new look to Reema Sen for this movie. Ramji is handling the camera for the first time for Selva, and Yuvan Shankar Raja is composing six songs for the movie.

SRK to do Katha Parayumbol in HINDI

Katha Parayumbol, malayalam movie by Sreenivasan which recieved rave reviews is being associated with the superstars in all the language. While in Tamil and Telugu it will have Superstar Rajinikanth, in hindi it is said that SRK has accepted to don the role of the superstar.
